Mike started surfing and sailing while going to college in Santa Barbara many years ago. That's also where he met his wife, Wendy. Together they opened Kono's Restaurant on the North Shore of Oahu and were restaurant owners for 20 years. Their two kids were born on the North Shore.
Mike quit the restaurant career and followed his dream to become a boat captain at age 48. He worked 13 hour shifts, cleaned boat toilets, slept on couches, and crewed alongside high schoolers in order to gain the sea time to get his captain license. He holds a US Coast Guard Master License 25 ton with sailing endorsement.
Soon after, he found his dream boat, the legendary Free Spirit. Now it's your turn to come aboard!
